Tips for Presenters
Bring your own computer to your oral presentations.
RMPA is not providing in room computers. Wifi will not be available.
Workshops and Symposia:
A computer will not be provided but a projector will be provided. There may not be a reliable Wi-Fi connection in the presentation room, so do not rely on Wi-Fi for your presentation. Please put your presentation(s) on the laptop in the room where you will be presenting before your session begins.
There will be one practice room for presenters conducting workshops and symposia, as well as oral presentations. It will have a screen and a projector, and attendees will need to bring a laptop to do a practice presentation. The practice room is available on a first come, first served basis.
Poster presentations:
Poster presentations will last an hour, and at least one author is expected to be available during that time to answer questions. Please note that poster boards will be 6' wide by 4' high, and one common poster size is 48" wide by 36" tall. Posters should have introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections when presenting empirical work. Text should be large enough to be read from a distance of at least 4 feet. There will be push pins available for you to hang your poster on the poster board. The description of the poster in the conference app has a number at the beginning, and this is the number of the poster board you should be using to present your poster during your scheduled session.
Faculty mentors should mentor students through the process of creating a poster and presenting it. Here are some basic resources from APA:

Oral presentations:
A computer will not be provided but a projector will be provided. There may not be a reliable Wi-Fi connection in the presentation room, so do not rely on Wi-Fi for your presentation. Please put your presentation on the laptop in the room where you will be presenting during the breaks between sessions (not during your session). You will have 12 minutes for your presentation, with the final few minutes of the 15-minute segment for answering questions and transitioning between speakers. The moderator of the session will tell you when your 12-minutes are almost up, but you should also keep track of the time.
There will be one practice room available during the conference. It will have a screen and a projector, and attendees will need to bring a laptop to do a practice presentation. The practice room is available on a first come, first served basis.
Pro Tip #1: When naming your presentation file, choose something unique. A good number of presenters have files that begin with RMPA or Rocky Mountain, so it can be difficult to find your presentation.
Pro Tip #2: A unique filename is helpful, but it should also be professional. Audience members will likely be able to see the file name when you are opening it up. Don’t choose something you wouldn’t want them to see! Your desktop will also be visible to the audience when you connect your computer to the projector.
Faculty mentors should mentor students through the process of creating slides and presenting research, including observing students practicing their talks. Here are some basic resources from APA about oral presentations:
Teaching Take-Out Demonstrations:
During the Portenier-Wertheimer Teaching Conference, there will a one-hour Teaching Take-Out session with several presenters. At less than 10-minutes each, these presentations will be ready-to-use demonstrations for the psychology classroom. Please note that if your teaching take-out demonstration submission is accepted that you will be presenting in the noon session on Thursday, which is the first session of the teaching conference.
If you wish to use a projector for your teaching-take out, there will be one available to you but please bring your own computer and your prevention on a USB thumb drive.
